The number of choreographies qualifying for the Gala competition is determined in the table above. As a rule, the choreographies with the highest number of points from the regular part of the festival shall qualify for the Gala competition. Notwithstanding this, the organizer reserves the right to adjust the list of qualified choreographies in accordance with the rule that 75% of the choreographies shall be selected based on the highest scores from the regular part of the festival, while 25% shall be selected at the discretion of the organizer or the judging panel. The organizer reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of choreographies invited to the Gala competition at any time.
THE BIG TWELVE - GALA SCORING SYSTEM
The Gala competition applies a special scoring system called THE BIG TWELVE. For the final ranking in the Gala competition, judges use the same evaluation criteria as in the regular part of the competition. After viewing all performances, the judges rank the choreographies from first to last place. The system then converts the judges’ rankings into points according to the following scale:
1st place – 12 points
2nd place – 10 points
3rd place – 8 points
4th place – 7 points
5th place – 6 points
6th place – 5 points
7th place – 4 points
8th place – 3 points
9th place – 2 points
10th place – 1 point
and all other places – 0 points.
The winner of the Gala competition is the choreography with the highest total number of points from all judges. In the event of a tie, the winner is determined using the Skating judging system (majority of higher placements).
The presentation of the judges’ points will take place after the competition and will be displayed on the big screen for dancers and spectators to follow. Each judge will present their scores in three steps: first awarding points from 1 to 8, then announcing who receives 10 points, and finally revealing who is awarded 12 points.
